日本滞在最終日
午前中、新宿都庁前の「榊原記念クリニック」へ定期心臓検診。
午後、国際ソロプチミスト東京ー東にフエ市長からの感謝状を渡すため「ホテルニューオータニ」へ。
左（威圧するかのように聳えるな都庁）
右（明日から全面禁煙になる新宿駅）
午前１０時頃榊原記念クリニックに到着。クリニックは「ＮＳビル」の４階。その前に東京都庁が威圧感を持って聳えていた。東京の教育は大きく「右旋回」している。３月の卒業式で起立し「君が代」を歌わないと懲戒処分をするとの通達が出ている。
榊原クリニックで受診を待つ。今日はどういう訳か私の主治医の隣の部屋が小児心臓病の権威の先生のようで１０人位の幼児が親と一緒に受診を待っていた。見るとはなしに幼児と親を見ていると、どの親も子どもたちに「お菓子」「スナック」などを食べさせていた。中には、親自身がお菓子を食べている。子どもたちは、受診を待つ長椅子の前を駆け出して大騒ぎしている。どの親も「ニコニコ」して、「自分の子どもは本当に良い子だ」と言った顔をしている。どこか変だ。子どもたちに規範意識がないというが、規範意識がないのは、大人だ。
心電図を取り受診。心臓の薬をもらう。１ヶ月分しか出ないのでフエでの長期滞在は心臓の薬の問題も
ある。ＮＳビルから歩いてＪＲ新宿駅へ。ホームに着いた時、「本日を最後に新宿駅ホームの喫煙コーナーを撤去します。明日からは、全面禁煙を致します」との場内放送が流れる。見るとははしに「喫煙コーナー」を見る。１０人近くの人が喫煙中。喫煙している人の顔を凝視する。丁度、阿片を吸引しているかのような「中毒患者」の空ろな顔つき。視点は定まらない様子でタバコを吸っていた。
国際ソロプチミスト東京ー東に対しフエ市長から出た感謝状を預かっている。今日午後２時に「ホテルニューオータニ」で関係者にお会いすることになっていた。定刻にニューオータニの指定された場所に行ったが、うまく連絡が取れない。３０分待ったが駄目だった。次回、６月の帰国時に再度訪問。
病院で待っている間に「昭和史」（著：半藤一利ー平凡社）を読了。明治維新以後、昭和２０年８月の敗戦までの間、どのように戦争に入っていったのかを検証している。半藤氏の歴史観には必ずしも同意できない部分がある。半藤氏は、天皇は戦争に一貫して反対していた平和主義者との前提で論述している。詳細は省くが、本の最後に昭和史を振り返り、戦争を防止・阻止するための「５つの教訓」を記述している。大いに学ぶべき点があるので紹介したい。
①国民的熱狂を作ってはいけない。時の勢いに駆り立てられてはいけないということです。熱狂は理性的なものではなく、感情的な産物ですが、昭和史全体をみてきますと、何と日本人は熱狂したことか。マスコミにあおられ、いったん燃え上がってしまうと熱狂そのものが権威をもちはじめ、不動のもののように人々引っ張って行き、流してしまう。
②最大の危機において日本人は抽象的な観念論を非常に好み、具体的な理性的な方法論を全く検討しないということです。
③日本型のタコツボ社会における小集団主義の弊害があるかと思います。陸軍大学校優等卒の集まった参謀本部作戦課が絶対的な権威をもち。そのほかの部署でどんな貴重な情報を得てこようが一切認めないのです。
④⑤割愛。
①②③は今の日本にそのまま当てはまるように思う。
