ベトナムに着く
朝６時自宅を出る。満月が西の空にきれいに見える。寒い。スーツケースを持つ手が凍える。
西台→巣鴨→日暮里と乗り継ぎ、京成スカイライナーで成田空港へ。
「とりインフルエンザ」の影響で海外旅行へ行く人が減っているとの報道があったが、空港はかなり混雑している。
搭乗券の手続きを済ませ、両替へ。両替所は長蛇の列。結局、両替に４０分ほどかかってしまう。
「子どもの家」への支援金や現地生活費などを米ドルに両替。
午前９時半にベトナム航空とJAL共同運航便の待合所へ。着いたら直ぐに登場開始。午前１０時発なのに。いつもは出発の１０分位前から登場開始なのだが、今日はどうしてだろう。ベトナム事務所の西山優子も一緒の便で行くはずなのだがまだいない。
急いで先日急死したハノイ近藤紘一さんの奥さんに葬儀等の日程を伺おうと電話をするが、不在。
次男の耕太に連絡を頼む。現地ベトナム事務所では近藤紘一さんに一方ならぬお世話になっている。
私はどうしても通夜か葬儀に出席したかったのだが、２月８日朝からテレビ大阪の現地取材が入っているため、今日フエヘ戻っていなければならない。日本事務所の山西さんに「花輪等」のお願いをしてある。
１０時過ぎにベトナム航空機は離陸。昨夜１２時近くまで仕事をしていたので、急に眠気を催す。
気が付くと１時間ほど寝ている。持っている朝日新聞とベトナム「青年新聞」を読む。朝日新聞には、イラクの日本大使館員がテロの危機を感じてどこかへ「雲隠れ」しているとのこと。日本と同じサマワに軍を展開しているオランダ大使館がテロ攻撃を受けてのことのようだ。大使館員が逃げなければならないイラクの現状。こうした所に自衛隊を派兵し、安全を確保すると詭弁を弄している小泉首相の「改革」のペンキは既にハゲハゲ状態。
ベトナム共産青年同盟機関紙「青年」は１面、２面で「とりインフルエンザ」の特集。
午前１１時半昼食。軽く缶ビールを1缶飲む。
テープで「テレサテン」「松山千春」を聞く。
結局６時間２０分位かかってホーチミンの「タンソンニャット空港」へ着く。ホーシミン市の気温は３２度。うーん、暑い。一昨日までマイナス４度の札幌で雪祭りを見学し、１０度の東京で寒さを感じ、一気に２０度から３０度も気温が上がった３２度のホーチミン市へ。
飛行機はほぼ満席に近かった。既にマスクをしている人もいる。ほとんど意味のないマスクだが・・。
バスで入国管理へ。大勢の日本人が入管まではやって来たが半数程は、その足でカンボジアや他国へ行くための「トランジット」。ベトナム入国者はかなり少ない。私はトップで入管を通過。その足でターンテーブルへ荷物を取りにいく。
ターンテーブルで西山優子と出会う。３週間ぶり。優子はテト休暇を利用して大学院の入試に臨んだ。大学院入試の状況を聞きながら荷物が出てくるのを待つ。
荷物は優子と隣り合わせに出てきた。その足で税関の検査。１０秒。
午後３時半。（日本時間午後５時半）
フエ行きの飛行機は午後６時４０分。３時間ほど時間がある。
優子と一緒にタクシーでホーチミン市内へ。優子はアオザイ屋へ。私は行きつけの「インターネットカフェ」へ。そこでこの新火焔樹日記を書いているわけである。午後５時、レックスホテルで優子と待ち合わせをし、再度「タンソンニャット空港」へ。
空港でテレビ大阪「ボランティア２１」取材スタッフと合流。
午後７時４０分、フエ空港着。雨。寒い。１３度。
今日は朝東京で１度。ホーチミン市で３２度、そしてフエで１３度と気温の変化に振り回された。
午後８時半にトンチンカンホテル着。
朝５時起き。とにかく疲れた。明日は６時半にディーンラームさんと合流し、朝食を摂り、午前７時にテレビ大阪の取材チームと一緒に１日行動の予定。
トンチンカンホテルの部屋のメールには２４８通のメールが入っていた。
